School Camps/Education Outside the Classroom
Education outside the classroom has a strong emphasis at our school, developing the whole child through wide and varied experiences. We are also involved in a covenant with the QEII Trust and the Maungatautari Ecological Island Trust to assist with the development of native bush areas in the district.
Each year various camps and trips are held that encourage children to try new things and experience a wide range of outdoor activities that develop their self confidence. In the past we have had senior school camps to Waihi, Port Waikato, Waitomo, Wellington and to Mount Ruapehu for skiing/snowboarding. Junior camps have often involved an overnight stay at the school in tents and during the day they have explored areas such as Otorohanga Kiwi House, Local Marae and the Southern Enclosure. We have also been fortunate to hold whole school camps at the base of Maungatautari Mountain.
Various activities are experienced outside the classroom as we ensure a connection with our local, rural roots and community. We maintain a school plot in the Maungatautari Enclosure; the Eco Kids gardens and outdoor classroom; participating in events such as the Kids for Kids concert; attending the OMG Tech Rangers day; have large participation in the School Ag Day which is the culmination of weeks of caring for and raising a calf, lamb or goat; contributing to society by contributing to charity groups such as the Cancer society and Cure Kids.
