Roto-o-Rangi School

Agricultural Day

In October each year we hold our school Agricultural Day (Ag day).

We encourage all children who are able to have a lamb or kid goat, to rear and befriend it.  Animals can usually be found for those who do not live on a farm, often on a 'return' basis.  In the past, children from town with an average sized backyard have still managed to raise a goat or a lamb.  The programme caters for Calves (when allowed), Lambs and Goats.  Children of all ages are able to enter, including pre-school children.

Ag day has a great family atmosphere with several local firms sponsoring our day, so come along and join us and enjoy a barbecue lunch!

AG DAY 2019

Ag Day this year is being held on Friday 18th October 2019

This year we are trialling incorporating a pet section with competitions like “Owner and Pet who look most alike”, “Cuddliest Pet”, "Best behaved pet and owner” and more.  The one important rule with the Pet section though is that the pets will not be able to stay at school for the entire day.  The competitions will be early in the day so pets can be at school by 10am but they must be taken home by 12.30pm.  Pets will need to be in a cage whilst at school and so we don’t want them caged all day (except for pet mice or snakes – they can stay in a cage the whole time) hence they need to go home by 12.30pm.  For this reason, and so as not to upset the other animals, we will not be allowing dogs to attend.

If your child will be entering a lamb or kid goat please let the office know so we have a clearer idea of the numbers being entered.

We would love some parents to help with various tasks on the day, including baking.  A notice will come home about this soon.

Other competitions include the 'Garden in a Bucket' and baking.

We still cannot have calves at our Ag Day because of the Micoplasma Bovis but you can do the online version.  Register at calfclubnz.co.nz where you will also find all the info needed to compete in this format.
