Roto-o-Rangi School

Swimming

Swimming is an important part of our physical education programme and we are fortunate to have our own heated pool. Our Swimming programme begins in Term 1 where the children swim every day throughout the term.  In Term 4, swimming lessons begin again mid term.  Children are taught the essentials of being water safe and develop key swimming skills so that they feel confident in the water and develop great swimming stroke techniques.  In March each year we hold our annual swimming sports events for the the whole school.  We are looking forward to being able to do this in the Cambridge town pool again from 2022, after several years of holding it in different locations, with the juniors being held here at school.

All our senior children compete in the Rural Schools Swimming sports against other Cambridge Rural Schools. The top 2 or 3 place winners from each school then form the Rural Team to compete at the Cambridge Swimming Sports at the end of March.

Our school families and Roto-o-Rangi community are able to hire a key for the pool so that they can use it after school, at weekends and in the school holidays.  For more information about this please contact the school office.

A local swimming instructor uses our pool to provide swimming lessons after school hours in the summer months.  Details of this will be shared with families via our Roto Parents Facebook group, offering the opportunity to take up the lessons.
