Roto-o-Rangi School

Agricultural Day

In October each year we hold our school Agricultural Day (Ag day).

For our families who are new to the concept of Ag Day, it is an opportunity for us to come together and celebrate what makes us different from town schools, and that is rural life.  On the day itself we will have our traditional Ag Day competitions with experienced judges carefully assessing the lamb, calf and kid goat entries, but we will also have;

 -       Pet Day

 -       Baking and Gardening Competitions

 -       Refreshments and treats available to purchase

 -       Cow Pat Bingo

 -       A sausage sizzle

We encourage all children who are able to have a calf, lamb or kid goat, to rear and befriend one. Animals can usually be found for those families who do not live on a farm, often on a 'return' basis. In the past, children from town with an average sized backyard have still managed to raise a goat or a lamb. The programme caters for calves, lambs and goats. Children of all ages are able to enter, including pre-school children.

AG DAY 2023

Ag Day this year is on Friday 13th October 2023 (Week 1 of Term 4)

(Please note that this information and the entry forms will be updated and uploaded during Term 2).

Ag day has a great family atmosphere and all are welcome to attend. Nau mai, haere mai, piki mai, kake mai!

We'd love all our tamariki to be involved in the day, either by entering Ag Day, Pet Day or the baking and gardening competitions.  Here's how they can be involved;

Calves and Mycoplasma Bovis

Whilst we are now able to have calves at Ag Day once again, Mycoplasma Bovis (a disease that affects cattle) is still around and can still be transmitted.  To ensure we hold a safe event and minimise the risks of spreading such diseases, we must follow the guidelines set out by the Ministry of Primary Industries.

If your child is entering a calf on Ag Day please click the buttons below and make sure you and your child understand what is required before and on the day.

Once again we are incorporating a pet section this year, with an opportunity for our tamariki and their pets to win competitions like 'Owner and Pet who look most alike'.  The most important rule with the pet section is that the pets will not be able to stay at school for the entire day.  The competitions will be early in the day so pets can be at school by 10am but they must be taken home by 12.30pm.  Please read the Ag Day Info for the current year and complete a Pet Day Entry Form by Wednesday 20th September 2023.

We would love some parents to help with various tasks on the day, including baking.  Please contact the office if you can offer some support with this.

GROUP DAY 2023
