Whaanau Hui
Date: 19th September 2023
Time: 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm
The Board and principal are working on developing a school curriculum specific to our tamariki at Roto-o-Rangi School. We would greatly appreciate your thoughts about what things you would like the school to teach (for example, a few years ago at one of our hui, Kapahaka was something a whaanau member felt was important to have at the school. It took a while to happen, but last week we performed at the Cambridge Schools kapahaka festival).
So again we are seeking your help with providing some direction for the kura. The hui is pretty informal and whaanau can contribute as much or as little as they are comfortable with.
To help, here are some questions we could discuss in the hui:
who is the person you want your tamariki to be as young adults?
What things will they know about, what skills, understandings, values, attitudes and beliefs do you want them to have so they can be the best they can be in their kuranga (education), whaanau (family) and hapori whaanui (wider community)?
How do we prepare them to stand tall as Maaori in Cambridge, Aotearoa and the world?
How do we prepare them to stand tall as Year 7s at CMS, St Peter's School or TA Intermediate?
or
You might have more specific ideas you want to share, like:
Our children should have a good understanding of important knowledgen like Kingiitanga, reo and tikanga, Pepeha, local stories of importance in this area, powhiri, whakatauki, etc?
We would greatly appreciate your thoughts to help guide the Board to make sure our whaanau's aspirations have been considered.
Let the office know if you are going to try and be there, but also feel free to just turn up if all works out for you to be there.
