Over the last few years we have worked hard to get our Kapa Haka up and running. Our first year of performing at the Cambridge Kapa Haka festival was 2023, with Whaea Rangiamoa as our tutor. In 2024 Matua Te Taonga coached our tamariki at Cambridge High School each week. We performed at the festival in August and noticed just how much our tamariki had grown in confidence and ability.
This year our hoa Te Kore Poka (Ngaati Koroki Kahukura, Ngaati Haua) has returned to coach our kapa, having first met us in 2022 as a student-coach from Cambridge High. This is our first year of whole school involvement, with Te Kore running a senior kapa, then juniors, and then our performance roopu. We feel very honoured to have this support from Te Kore, who stood with Te Pae Kahurangi at Te Matatini earlier this year.
