CANCELLED - Rural Winter Sports - Yr 5/6
Date: 5th June 2025
Time: 9:00 am to 2:30 pm
Our Year 5/6 students will combine with other Year 5/6 students across all the rural schools to participate in a variety of sports.
We do not compete against other schools, but are split up and combined with other schools to form teams. i.e. there may be 3-4 Roto children in a team with Goodwood chn, Hautapu chn, Horahora chn. Each Team then rotate through a variety of games in a tabloid style day. So Roto children will play against Roto children in another team.
Parents are welcome to drop by and watch. It can be a bit difficult finding your child amongst the 10 sports and 20 teams playing at the same time, so you will have to be resilient.
Purpose:
● To create a festival type day, where students have the opportunity to exhibit large ball/invasion skills, learnt as part of their curriculum program at school.
● Through mixing up teams, students are given an opportunity to meet and form friendships with those from other schools, prior to attending middle/secondary school.
● Students will be exposed to a range of sports that they may have played previously or not at all. It is hoped through this day, a love of a particular sport may be developed.
