Education Sector Strike
You will be aware that there is a plan for a major strike on Oct 23rd across a number of departments in the education sector. Formal notification of a strike does not happen until 3 days prior to the strike which will 20th Oct. However, that is tricky for parents to plan for hence this advanced notice. Should the strike proceed the Board have made the decision to close the school for instruction on that day. The school will not be open in any capacity for children to attend.
Whilst the government is requesting a return to the bargaining table before strike action, our negotiating teams are always ready to return when progress on the issues occurs. To highlight this, since the last time the negotiation teams met for the Principals’ Agreement, the Public Service Commissioner has not presented another formal offer. The only offer was presented in July and rejected mid August.
Teachers, Principals, Support Staff (teacher aides, office managers, etc) and some staff at the MOE are all negotiating their own, separate Agreements.
